The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara held a Technical Guidance on Google Scholar and Lecturer Profiles Synchronization in undergraduate, master, and doctoral study programs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This event was organized by the Directorate of Digitalization and System Integration of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, which aimed to increase institutions' visibility in the Webometrics ranking criteria. This activity took place in the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Universitas Sumatera Utara and was attended by various academic stakeholders.

This activity was divided into several sessions based on the study programs involved. The activity for the Biology study program occurred on Wednesday and Friday, precisely on October 9 and 11, 2024. The Chemistry study program carried out the guidance session on Friday, 11 October, and continued on Monday, 21 October 2024. The session for the Physics study program was held on Wednesday, 13 November 2024. All activities are centred in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Universitas Sumatera Utara.

This event aims to help lecturers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Universitas Sumatera Utara maximize the potential of their academic profiles through the Google Scholar platform. This profile synchronization is expected to increase the number of globally indexed publications, directly affecting the university's ranking in Webometrics. For information, Webometrics is a university ranking system based on digital presence and impact, with Google Scholar being one of the important assessment indicators.

Google Scholar allows lecturers to showcase their scientific contributions more transparently and reach a wider audience. Thus, lecturers and universities can increase their visibility and international reputation. In addition, this activity strengthens collaboration and discussion regarding scientific publications and research capacity development of lecturers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Several important figures from various study programs in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences were present in this guidance activity. Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Miswar Budi Mulya, S.Si., M.Si., also attended and gave the opening remarks. In his speech, he emphasized the important role of digitalization in improving the competitiveness and image of the institution at the national and international levels.

This activity was also attended by the Head of the undergraduate biology study program, Dr. Yurnaliza, S.Si., M.Si., who led the coordination of the biology study program. Meanwhile, from the Chemistry study program, the Head of the Chemistry Masters Department, Prof. Dr. Tamrin, M.Sc., and the Head of the Chemistry Masters Study Program, Dr. Marpongahtun, M.Sc., were present. The Chemistry study program was also represented by the Head of the Study Program, Dr. Tulus Ikhsan Nasution, S.Si., M.Sc.

The participants, mostly the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences lecturers, were very enthusiastic about participating in this series of events. They actively discussed strategies for managing scientific publications, the importance of maintaining research quality, and how to maximize the features of Google Scholar to promote their scientific work.

Through this technical guidance, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes that all lecturers can be more active in utilizing the Google Scholar platform to increase the number of citations. This, in turn, will have a positive impact on increasing Universitas Sumatera Utara's ranking in Webometrics. In addition, this activity is also expected to spur lecturers to be more productive in producing quality publications.
