Socialization of Higher Education Information Security Monitoring System in the Environment of Universitas Sumatera Utara

Medan, 1 November 2024 - Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) through the Directorate of Digitalization and System Integration held a Socialization of the Higher Education Information Security Monitoring System on 1 November 2024 at the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB), 8th Floor. This event aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of information security in the campus environment.

This activity was attended by several lecturers, education staff, and students who were enthusiastic to gain deeper insights into cybersecurity and monitoring systems implemented in universities. This event also presented two important speakers, namely the Head of the Information Systems Center (PSI), Mr Mohammad Fadly Syah Putra, M.Sc, and the Head of the Center for Data and Information Technology and Culture (PUSDATIN), Mr Dr Yudhistira Nugraha, S.T., M. ICT Adv., D. Phil.

 

In his speech, Mr Mohammad Fadly Syah Putra, M.Sc., emphasized the importance of a strong and effective information security system in supporting the smooth operation of the university. “Information security is a top priority in this digital era, especially for universities that are the center of important data and information. We want to ensure that the entire academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara understands their role in maintaining the integrity of this system,” said Mr Fadly.

 

In the presentation of the material, Mr. Dr. Yudhistira Nugraha, S.T., M. ICT Adv., D. Phil further explained the technology and information security monitoring mechanism applied at the Universitas Sumatera Utara. He also explained the various potential cyber threats in the university environment and how the new monitoring system is designed to detect and respond effectively. “We are not only talking about technology but also how we can build a culture of information security on campus,” said Mr. Yudhistira.

This socialization was held to educate all elements at the Universitas Sumatera Utara to be more vigilant and understand the importance of protecting digital information, especially during rampant cyber attacks on educational institutions.

 

The event, which took place at the Digital Learning Center Building (DLCB), ended with an interactive question-and-answer session. Participants could ask the speakers about information security, preventive measures, and technology that the Universitas Sumatera Utara will apply to improve its digital security.

With this activity, it is expected that the entire academic community of the Universitas Sumatera Utara can actively maintain information security, thus creating a safer and more secure digital environment.
