MEDAN – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Directorate of Digitalization and System Integration (Ditgrasi), is increasing vigilance against the most common cybersecurity threat: phishing and digital fraud attempts. These threats usually arrive via suspicious emails attempting to steal personal data or USU accounts.

To protect the data and accounts of the entire academic community (sivitas akademika), Ditgrasi emphasizes three fundamental preventive steps:

  1. Do Not Click Suspicious Links Users must be cautious and immediately report if they receive emails or messages requesting personal data. Always check the sender's address and do not click links or open files from unknown or suspicious sources.
  2. Do Not Share Passwords Passwords are the primary key to security. Users are prohibited from sharing passwords with anyone, including colleagues or parties claiming to be from the information systems division.
  3. Activate Two-Step Verification (2FA) The obligation to activate Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on email accounts, information systems, and other digital platforms is emphasized to prevent unauthorized access.

Ditgrasi reminds the community that phishing attempts are scams committed by parties impersonating official entities. Previously, USU issued "5 Smart Tech Tips," including advice to use official software and routinely perform backups of important data. Additionally, all users are required to change system passwords every three months.

By educating and encouraging these preventive actions, USU is determined to realize a safe and professional digital environment for the entire community.
