The Directorate of Digitalization and System Integration (Ditgrasi) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continues its efforts to improve the effectiveness of digital services through the implementation of USU Single Sign-On (SSO). USU SSO is a centralized authentication service that allows the entire academic community (sivitas akademika) to access various USU digital applications using only one account.
This initiative is designed to realize the principles of being “practical, secure, and hassle-free” when interacting with the campus information technology ecosystem. With SSO, the repetitive login process for various systems—ranging from e-learning and official email to other academic services—can be eliminated.
The USU SSO service provides significant benefits, not only in terms of user convenience but also regarding security and system governance:
- Practical and Efficient The academic community only needs to remember one set of credentials (Username/NIP/NIM/USU Email and password) to access all applications. This cuts down the time wasted on separate login processes.
- Centralized Security With centralized authentication, account security management becomes stronger and standardized. This reduces security risks arising from the use of multiple, often weak, passwords.
- Better User Experience SSO creates a seamless digital experience for users, encouraging the adoption of digital applications provided by the university.
This centralized authentication service is a fundamental step in realizing USU's vision of “Transformation Towards the Ultimate,” ensuring that technology functions as an enabler, not a hindrance, for daily academic and administrative activities.
